StreetVet Lincoln launched in March 2019 after Miri started volunteering at a local homeless meal and received an overwhelming amount of support and enthusiasm from her colleagues at the Veterinary Hospital. After contacting other local practices, we soon had the numbers of veterinary staff needed for setting up our own branch of StreetVet. The lovely Gabe came up from London to introduce us to the intricacies of running a branch and we were soon donning our backpack for walks around the centre of Lincoln.
In May we made the switch to a static site for our weekly StreetVet drop-in sessions, alongside ECHO the “East Coast Homeless Outreach”. Everyone at ECHO has been so supportive of the StreetVet team, and Jeannine, our ECHO-StreetVet liaison has been invaluable in helping us get up and running, even providing a gazebo for shelter in wet-weather sessions and flyers for other homeless organisations to direct those in need of our help to StreetVet.
StreetVet Lincoln currently has over 25 volunteer vets and nurses on the team and we continue to grow week by week.
